Mussels in Garlic White Wine Sauce

2 T. olive oil
2 T. butter
1/2 large onion, chopped fine
3 cloves garlic, minced fine
1 c. white wine
1/2 t. thyme
pinch of salt and pepper
1 pound mussels
1 loaf crusty bread of your choice

Melt butter in olive oil in large sauce pan.  Add onion and garlic.  Cook on medium-low for 3 minutes.  Add white wine and thyme.  Cook another minute then add mussels.  Put lid on pot and cook 8-10 minutes.  While cooking place bread on rack in oven and let warm.  Remove bread and slice , pour pot into bowl.  Serve in bowl with bread for dipping in sauce.
