Holiday Sugar Cookies -Cut Outs

1 c. sugar
1 c. butter
1 egg
2 t. vanilla
2 2/3 c. flour
1/4 t. salt

Preheat oven to 375.  Cream butter and sugar well.  Add egg, salt and vanilla, beat well.  Blend in flour gradually, about a cup at a time.  Chill at least one hour.  Roll oug on floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness.  Cut with cookie cutters.  Roll up unused dough and roll out again.  Continue to do so until all dough is used.  Bake 7 to 10 minutes or until edges barely begin to get golden brown.  Let cool one minute and remove to cooling rack or sheets of wax paper.  Can be stored in airtight container in freezer for up to one month.
