AWR 132: Understanding & Planning for School Bombing Incidents


New Mexico Tech – Energetic Materials Research and Training Center

Funded and Certified by the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS)


This lecture course provides information required for formulating safe and effective response plans for school bomb incidents and addresses a variety of pre-incident issues, including countermeasures and pre-attack indicators. At the conclusion of the training, the team is able to:

  • Describe factors involved in school bomb threats

  • Identify critical response actions based on scenario types and factors associated with time, distance and shielding

  • Recognize the primary components of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED)

  • Identify critical components of a school bomb related response plan 

    The course is applicable to hospital and other mass care facilities.


Who Should Apply – School Personnel, Law, SROs, Emergency Management, EMS, Fire.
