Welcome to Dirk Vogel's Web Portfolio
My story about the impact of digital disruption on boardsports retail, plus hands-on strategies for retailers to stay ahead of the curve, from Boardsport SOURCE issue 84 is now live on our website.
Boardsport SOURCE Issue 84 is out and features five of my stories, probably the most writing I've done for a single issue.
Trend Reports shine a light on upcoming products in Skate Cruisers, Skate Footwear, Backpacks, and Men's Streetwear. And I'm particularly excited about the chance to write about the impact of digital transformation in the boardsports segment in a feature story.
I made an illustrated children's book for my daughter and son. Now available on Amazon Kindle, Little Bunny Wants to Fly tells the story of a little bunny with a dream of flying high in the sky like a bird. When the little bunny finds a skateboard, he knows how to make his dream a reality…
Set in Venice Beach, California, the illustrated book is for all the skate moms and skate dads out there, who let their little ones spread their wings and follow their dreams.
The book is available worldwide via the Amazon Kindle Store.
For issue 17 of SPECTR, the international eyewear fashion magazine, I had the chance to talk to Giovanni Lo Faro, managing director at eyewear mainstay MODO.
I also caught up with one of the most original and innovative European eyewear brands, Hapter from the Dolomite mountains in Italy.
New hype brands and fast fashion conglomerates want a slice of the streetwear market. But for Spring/Summer 2017 men’s streetwear collections, endemic boardsports brands are banking on authenticity, sustainability, and timeless classics.

Issue 82 of Boardsport SOURCE magazine features my trend reports on streetwear and footwear as well as a special focus story: How to sell technical hardgoods in skateboard retail? For this article, I talked to R&D departments and engineers at leading skate brands, including Eric Sentianin at Dwindle and iconic skateboard developer George Powell.
Living in Los Angeles and working in skateboard media definitely has its perks. Like going to fancy video premieres such as the recent adidas Skateboarding "Away Days" World Premiere at the Orpheum Theater. The premiere was a night to remember, with Snoop Dogg and Mark Gonzales kicking things off and the entire team up on stage.
The latest issue of EYEWEAR Magazine features my interview with jet-setting eyewear designer Wolfgang Proksch.
I always enjoy talking to eyewear designers because they look at everything for inspiration – architecture, automobiles, furniture design, fashion… And they're always good conversations, so was Wolfgang's interview.
