  • Wireless Internet Protocols are the suite of wireless protocols after Wireless Application Protocol 2.0 (WAP). It includes XHTML Basic, Nokia's XHTML Mobile Profile, and future developments of WAP by the Open Mobile Alliance.
  • Wi-Fi is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance that manufacturers may use to brand certified products that belong to a class of wireless local area network (WLAN) devices based on the IEEE 802.11 standards. 802.11 the most widely used WLAN technology.
  • Provides shared access to the Internet with up to 128 Kbps or greater (depending on service purchased) of throughput via a Wireless Local Area Network connection. It comes with a single Private IP address (DHCP) and provides a single connection to a single computer.
    speed up
  • An increase in speed, esp. in a person's or machine's rate of working
  • Effect where the pace of the action is increased from what occurred in reality in front of the camera. This acceleration is accomplished during editing or, more traditionally, during filming by undercranking – running the film through the camera at a slower rate than it will be played back.
  • In parallel computing, speedup refers to how much a parallel algorithm is faster than a corresponding sequential algorithm.
  • accelerate: move faster; "The car accelerated"

Wireless 56k... So Bittersweet
Wireless 56k... So Bittersweet
So when I visit my mother I'm limited to dialing out to my Earthlink ISP through the land line, since she uses NetZero for her internet, and I don't pick up any neighbors' wireless networks. (The perils of a huge, spread out neighborhood) So of course when both Alisa and I are visiting, we both have our laptops, but there's only one phone line. So I dial up with my Powerbook, then go into the Sharing Preferences and share the modem's connection through Airport. Alisa's iBook sees the wireless connection and she's instantly online. I am always just amazed at how easy this is to accomplish with OSX. I have shared internet with XP before on Wireless, and it is a HUGE pain! Forget about doing it with 3 clicks on one preference pane like in OSX. So this is a picture of my Powerbook hosting Alisa's iBook. Oh yeah, the bittersweet part? 56k is still 56k, and with two computers it can grind to a halt. Especially with two users who are spoiled with high-speed campus networks.

yes and by that i mean my life on the net and my life literally. remember when we all had dial-up internet, and you had to connect to a modem that would hog up the phone line? haha yeaaah and now its all about high speed and wireless crap. i dont know where i’d be without all this technology D: but it sucks how we’ve all become so spoiled and dependant on it. sometimes i wish i wasn’t…for obvious reasons we all know haha - for the most part, i’d be so much more productive! -_-“
