""Digital Storytelling" is an emerging term, one that arises from a grassroots movement that uses new digital tools to help ordinary people tell their own 'true stories' in a compelling and emotionally engaging form. These stories usually take the form of a relatively short story (less than 8 minutes) and can involve interactivity. "
The purpose of this workshop is to give you a very brief introduction to using PHOTOSTORY3 as a digital story telling tool so tht you may return to your classes and let your students explore telling stories and/or describing what they know in a different way.  If you have students who are not motivated to write, and who struggle to find their voice, perhaps they would excel at representing what they know using a different technique?  Isn't it worth a shot?
By the end of this workshop you will:
  1. Understand the basic use of PhotoStory 3.
  2. Be able to import your own pictures into PhotoStory and add text, effects, voice and music to create a finished project.
  3. Be comfortable enough to start using PhotoStory 3 with your students.
Good teaching techinques, when using technology, are the same as they have always been.  Do not worry about having to be a master of the technology tools - there are plenty of people around who would love to help you with the technology - all you have to do is ask around!
What you should focus on is giving students a clear target of what they are expected to achieve and plan how you will use ongoing feedback and other formative assessment to help keep them on track as they work through their projects.
Work backwards from what you want the students to achieve, and unravel the steps to work your way back to the start.  Create your plan for teaching the students from that process, and then get started working with your students on this!  Our students relate to pictures and video (you'll likely be surprised how many of them have uploaded videos to the internet already!) and if it is our job to EMPOWER them to positively express themselves in this medium and to create HIGH QUALITY work!
