DICOManTX is a tool for anyone who needs to view/manipulate DICOM datasets. The current version is 5.7.6 build 1581 released on August 28, 2025. The package can be downloaded by clicking the Download button at the bottom of this page. The app comes with an online manual. If it did not open for some reason, you can download its PDF version at the bottom of this page.
DICOManTX was originally designed for DICOM gurus. However, many users found it a useful tool for clinical practice, R&D and education. To learn more about how it was started, you may want to visit its more detailed introduction page.
To adapt to the latest release of DICOM standards and user needs, DICOManTX is constantly evolving. Please check this website periodically to get the latest upgrade.
A module was added to perform auto AVM staging in GammaKnife.
A built-in Modality Worklist Client was added.
A function was added to remove burnt-in PHI.
The function to change image FOV was optimized.
Batch processing functions were optimized to handle more data in less resources.
The DICOM retriever was further upgraded to allow more query constraints and retrieval lists of MRNs, accession numbers and series instance UIDs. It also supports all three query models.
NIfTI ( https://nifti.nimh.nih.gov/) images can be viewed and converted to DICOM.
Private tag dictionaries can be loaded in the DICOM Editor when needed, and the dictionary view/management module was upgraded.
The module to extract frames from multi-frame image object was upgraded.
SR object can be presented in a more readable format.
A syntax inspection tool was added to the DICOM object inspection toolset.
A CID lookup tool was added for DICOM application developers. 476 CID tables and 13,354 codes are included in the dictionary.
A tag lookup tool was added for quick checks.
A binary editor was added to expedite development or debugging process. It can be put in workspace as if the app is a general-purpose binary editor.
The DICOM entity management module was upgraded so that DICOM entity can be specified in either IP address or name.
A module was added to build IOD models and examine standard conformance status of an object . 170 IOD models ( modef.zip updated on June/6/2025 ) have been built based on the latest DICOM standards of version 2025c. They are included in the package. It offers a new concise version of DICOM standards. Modules and macros will expend where they are cited. It also offers three tiers of implementation templates (full, DICOM minimum implementation and IHE-RO implementation) for defined IODs. Following the simple modeling instruction, users can easily build other IOD models based on DICOM standards. At the IOD level, models can be customized and saved by ignoring or mandating optional or conditional modules. When an object is loaded, it can examine its standard conformance status if the corresponding model was built.
The pixel-padding function was extended to resizing function.
Tag decluttering function was added to remove private tags and correct errors.
A function was added to rescale pixel values in given rescale slope and intercept.
A function was added to append more slices on either end of the image stack.
Median dose and interquartile dose range were added to dose statistics.

The installation package of DICOManTX can be downloaded below (click the blue downward arrow). The license for DICOMan should work for DICOManTX. Please be advised that DICOMan and its hosting webpage will no longer be updated. Please check this website periodically to get the latest version.
For many users of Windows 7 and above, installation is not needed. You simply download the package and unzip it to a folder. If that did not work out, you may have to install needed runtimes.
Download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update vcredist_x86.exe. If it did not work, download it here vcredist_x86.exe. When you see this error message, you need to download and install the 32-bit service pack.
Install Adobe PDF reader https://acrobat.adobe.com/us/en/acrobat/pdf-reader.html.
Download DICOManTX package ( click the button below) and unzip it to a folder using the Windows built-in unzipping tool (other compression tools may cause unexpected problems), execute DicomanTX.exe and generate a license request file.
If not working, you may have to install ActiveX End-User Runtimes March 2008 or later version) directx_mar2008_redist.exe.
Attach the license request file to the email that you are going to send to the author at Yulong.Yan@utsouthwestern.edu.
When received a license, validate it in the same licensing module where your request was created. Enjoy.
