D'Hercy Dance Co has been providing dance classes for pre-school, youth, teens and adults in the Vancouver area for over 20 years.  Founded in 1990 in Vancouver by Michelle Hersey, the company creates opportunities for children to explore and develop their potential as artists and thinkers on their own terms. D'Hercy empowers children to achieve their individual best.  Group cooperation and leadership are fostered in a supportive and inclusive atmosphere. 

About Michelle

Owner/Operator Michelle Hersey, the head instructor at D'Hercy Dance Co, is passionate about dance and has an extensive background in dance and choreography. She has been teaching for over 28 years in the Vancouver area.  Michelle has taught at Arts Umbrella, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, the Vancouver Art Gallery and many community centres and local schools.  Michelle specializes in teaching children ages 2 to 15 years old through Laban-Effort Shape principles.  Michelle received her Elementary BEd from UBC in 2004 to add to her BA in Dance obtained in 1984 from SFU.  She holds a certificate from the Main Dance Bridging Program obtained in 2000.

She has self-produced many interdisciplinary shows of her own work combining visual art, including film, slides, sculpture, paintings and live music with dance since 1996.  She has performed with many local companies such as Edam Dance, Monique Giard Company de Dance and Metamotion.  She also is an accomplished musician including playing Latin percussion learned at the Banff School of Fine Arts. She uses all of these talents to inspire and teach children the joy of expression and creation, and the sharing of those creations with others.

Sheryl Hung

Born in Taiwan, Sheryl’s love for ballet blossomed after seeing a Swan Lake performance. She has always been so charmed by the beauty, elegance and perfection of ballet. Sheryl has studied at various Lower Mainland schools as well as the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. She is a graduate of the Senior Professional Dance Program at the Goh Ballet Academy. In addition to dance, Sheryl is a professional harpist with a B.Mus in Orchestral Performance from UBC.

Sheryl enjoys all the aspects of dancing: from working hard in a small studio to performing on a full stage. She loves sharing the joy of dance with her students and seeing them share that joy with audiences. She aims to inspire her students to develop their individual, creative, technical, and artistic abilities.


Jillian Good


Jillian began her dance journey at the age of 12 in a musical theatre class in Edmonton, AB. At the age of 14, she began training competitively in musical theatre, jazz, lyrical, ballet, contemporary and hip hop. While at the Victoria High School of the Performing Arts, she not only expanded her knowledge of modern dance principles, improvisation techniques and different teaching styles but also discovered her true passion for dance came from hip hop. After working with well-known choreographers such as Carlo Atienz, Alexander Chung and Megan Lawson, she joined competitive hiphop crews such as HardKore and 3SB that toured throughout BC and Alberta. Jillian is currently a member of Harbour Dance Centre and an all girls hip hop group called Endangered & Oynx Dance Co. Jillian loves to teach and share her passion with kids. "Hip hop is full of expression and raw movement. I love watching kids get inspired, grow more confident, and find their own individual style."

Hannah Zallen

Hannah’s passion for dance began with ballet and soon after expanded to include a variety of styles. Hannah danced with NSAD’s Performing Company for 4 years, performing at numerous events throughout the Lower Mainland as well as Disneyland.  Hannah’s passion for ballet brought her to Pacific Dance Arts’ Intensive Ballet Program for 1.5 years as well as Royal Winnipeg Ballet. She has taught at North Shore Academy of Dancing, Parkgate C.C. and Precision Dance Academy, where she currently teaches ballet. She is a member of the Royal Academy of Dance’s Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies and trains and performs with Scholarship Dance Vancouver. Hannah has a Human Kinetics Diploma from Capilano University. As well as sharing her love for dance with students, Hannah aims to share her kinesiology knowledge with injury prevention, proper stretching and basic muscle/bone anatomy. She believes knowing how the body works, even in simple terms, will benefit dance technique and understanding.


Abbye Lin

Abbye has passion for hip hop and has trained extensively at Harbour Dance, Vancouver Academy of Dance and Studio One. She also has a passion for education and has both an ECE degree and Montessori Infant/Toddler Teacher Education Training and has obtained her BED in 2015 from UBC.  She also holds a BA in Arts in Japanese studies.  She loves working with children and enjoys all forms of educational approaches that embrace the needs of the child on all levels.




Sarah Hutton

Sarah Hutton was born and raised in the small town of Hanna, Alberta where she discovered her love for dance at the age of five when she took her first Highland dancing class. Ever since, Sarah was intrigued by the possibilities of dance in all its forms. She continued to train in many dance styles and, while still in high school, began to also teach dance. Moving to Vancouver, Sarah began dancing with the Source Dance Company under the direction of Joanne Pesusich.

Sarah teaches many styles including jazz, tap, hip hop, lyrical, and contemporary. Many of her self-choreographed solos, students’ solos and groups became award-winning performances. Sarah looks forward to continue her instructing in BC and cannot wait to draw inspiration from her new students. 




Annabelle Wong

Annabelle Wong was born in Richmond BC and began her professional dance at the age of 5 in classical ballet.  Annabelle has  trained extensively in Royal Academy of Dance for 5 years  to Advanced level  Grade 2.  She then moved on into Modern Dance and is now pursuing her passion to dance professionally by studying at Simon Fraser University in the Contemporary/Modern Dance Degree Program.  Annabelle loves teaching children and sharing her passion for dance with them. 





Allison Derksen

Allison’s passion for dance began when she was seven years old and began her training at the Fraser Valley Academy of Dance.  She spent the next 11 years learning and performing Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop, Tap, Lyrical, Acro, and Musical Theatre.  After moving to New Zealand, Allison obtained her full ISTD Advanced 2 certification at the Draper Academy of Dance. Allison then travelled to the USA to learn from Contemporary choreographer Bill Evans and returned home to join the Contemporary Project at Main Dance.  Once Allison had completed the Dane Intensive Program, she became very active in Vancouver’s Hip Hop scene. She was accepted into Project Soul Productions Dance Company. She spent 3 years with the company learning and training with top choreographers like Scooby Doo, Kim Sato and Cristina Bucci.
Having been a performer for more than 15 years, Allison has spent the last decade instructing children and adults of all ages in nearly every style of Dance. 


Zahra Zakeralhosseini (Fery)


Fery’s love of dance began at the age of four. She trained over the years by Romanna (DoL) taking Adult Ballet, Contemporary and Hip Hop. She has been performing and teaching professionally for 10 years and several students have performed shows in Concert Halls and many local venues.

Her enthusiasm has a way of motivating students around her with positive energy, and also her creative techniques have brought her numerous awards for her choreography. She is loved by her students and classmates for her creativity and incredible sense of perseverance she brings to each day at every event. She is very excited to pass on her knowledge to her students and all dance enthusiasts.
