Ph.D. Thesis :

Homeostatic Complex Systems

Advisor: Prof. Robert Ian (Bob) McKay

This thesis focuses on bio-inspired innate intelligence based on Daisyworld, a mathematical model of the Gaia hypothesis. This model enables to build autonomous systems for life-long self-maintenance, self-organization, and self-regulation by homeostasis. We incorporate complexity features into our system via non-linearity (Coupled Map Lattice), small-world graphs (Watts-Strogatz, Newman-Watts, and Smallest-world models), adaptive graphs, scale-free graphs; and evolutionary model (replicator-mutator) to demonstrate autonomy. We use mathematical modeling, computer simulations, and extensive experiments for a wide range of rich features of complex systems to demonstrate collective intelligence or emergent artificial intelligence with the complex systems perspective.
