Abstract. This site was created to provide some basic information about Dariusz Frejlichowski, working as an associate professor at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Systems in West Pomeranian University of Technology, Szczecin. Here only the issues connected with work at the University (both scientific and teaching) are briefly described. Other professional duties and enterprises, related to the higher education, as an IT specialist, are not taken into consideration here.

2  Research interest

Roughly speaking, my research activities are connected with image analysis, processing and recognition in many topics and applications, e.g.:

  • shape description and recognition
  • fusion of various features representing an object of interest
  • Content Based Image Retrieval
  • applications of image extraction and recognition methods in erythrocyte recognition, trademark recognition and retrieval, airplane silhouettes recognition, ear biometrics, binary images compression, 3D shapes, localisation of vehicles, license plates recognition, color and shape fusion for CBIR and many, many other.


3  Publications and participation

I am the author and co-author of more than 100 scientific papers. The full list is provided in Appendix. The pictorial representation of their distribution over the years is provided in fig.2.

   I am a member of the Association of Image Processing (Polish Member Society of the IAPR - International Association of Pattern Recognition), IEEE (the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), ACM (the Association for Computing Machinery).

   I was the Deputy Editor-in-Chief for  Metody Informatyki Stosowanej (Methods of Applied Computer Science, Polska Akademia Nauk - Polish Academy of Sciences). I am the Editor-in-Chief  for Journal of Theoretical and Applied Computer Science (Polska Akademia Nauk - Polish Academy of Sciences) and Editor for Central European Journal of Engineering (Versita/Springer Verlag) and Central European Journal of Computer Science (Versita/Springer Verlag).

    I was a reviewer of more than 100 applications for fundings by National Centre for Research and Development (Narodowe Centrum Badań i Rozwoju), since 2012.

5  Work with students

Most of all I was the co-ordinator of the "Ernst & Young University" at the Faculty, an annual (since 2005) educational enterprise and competition held on 9 best polish faculties of Computer Science, lasting for 4 months. Every year the programme is very popular amongst students, with the number of participants reaching 150.

   Beside my scientific interests I am a lecturer with many courses for students (In 2005 I finished the postgraduate studies in Pedagogy, which often proves very helpful). Some exemplary courses (past and present) are:
