My Father's Research

Before his death, my father discovered a genetic marker identifying people with special abilities.  For safe-keeping, I have encoded it into a test that only an Indian Geneticist could figure out.  This particular test is one of many in which the genetic marker is encoded.

1. Of what are nucleotides composed?

 A. One sugar phosphate molecule and one acid

 T. One nitrogen phosphate molecule and one acid

 C. One sugar phosphate molecule and one base

 G. One nitrogen phosphate molecule and one base

2. What is "polymorphism"?

 A. Sequence variations in genes.

 T. The process by which cells create energy.

 C. Common genes in a community of organisms.

 G. The cult following of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

3. The comparison of chromosomes of humans and chimpanzees indicates that:

 A. Humans and chimps are very different.

 T. Humans and chimps are almost the same genetically.

 C. Humans are superior because they have more genetic information on each of their chromosomes.

 G. Humans are superior because they have more chromosomes.

4. What is the "phenotype"?

 A. The physical appearance of the organism.

 T. A specific part of a chromosome.

 C. A classification of species.

 G. Another name for "allele."

5. An allele is:

 A. Another word for a gene.

 T. A homozygous genotype

 C. A heterozygous genotype.

 G. One of several possible forms of a gene.

6. When the genotype consists of a dominant and a recessive allele, the phenotype will be like__________allele(s).

 A. The dominant

 T. The recessive

 C. Both

 G. Neither

7. In DNA, Adenine pairs with Thymine. But in RNA, what replaces Thymine?

 A. Uracil

 T. Guanine

 C. Nothing, It's still Thymine

 G. Cytosine

8. What does a restriction enzyme do?

 A. It's function is unknown.

 T. Cuts DNA at specific sites.

 C. Restricts transcriptions.

 G. Prevents DNA from replicating.
