Playing with new game ideas

The Game Crafter has a Miniatures contest, so I'm playing with a couple of ideas for it:

  • Halfling Hunt - a semi-cooperative/competitive game for 2-6 (??) players with elements of a scavenger hunt.

    A gang of 6 halflings went through town stealing ("borrowing!") items from each household.  Your little group is going after them to catch the thieves and hopefully recover the stolen ("borrowed!!!") items.

    As a group, your goal is to tag all six Halflings in their hideaway before they escape.  While you're searching the hideaway, you'll come across the stolen items, each protected by a trap of some sort.  Collect the right stolen items to fulfill a hidden goal before the sixth Halfling is tagged.  Be sure not to let any Halflings escape, or you all lose!

  • SubTerran Skirmish - a tactical battle game for 2-3 players with chinese-checker-like movement.

    Orcs, Trolls, and Goblins - banished from the World Above when magic disappeared, the SubTerran civilizations are now locked in their underground world.  Their only entertainment is the SubTerran Skirmish - a tactical battle in a compact arena where mobility and support are key.

Yet another new game idea, this one that popped into my head just before bed and somehow got refined while I was asleep: this one is a trick-taking game loosely themed on TV Wrestling, with elements from Bridge and 10-Point Pitch plus a couple of twists thrown in.  No logo or real artwork yet, but here's a prototype card with my crappy art:


Mists of Morpheus

New game concept I'm starting to work up:  Mists of Morpheus.  A tabletop "platform" cooperative game about leading a boy out of his nightmare and back to the real world before he's trapped forever.


Roads, Rails, Rivers, and Trails

RRR&T is officially "in testing" and close to ending up being the first game I officially "publish" at TGC.  Rules have been tightened up, box designed (and redesigned).  A few more playtests are still needed - especially with more than 2 players - but it's looking good for now.

spods™ rework

Did an initial playtest of spods.  Will schedule some more and continue working on it, but I'm also going to start working on a variant with a lot more tiles.  Working title is "Roads, Rails, Rivers & Trails", with a light "map-building" theme and a goal of having the best overall balance of routes using roads, rails, rivers, and trails when someone gets a route of length 7 and ends the game.

Finished the initial design and a prototype version of spods™.  Need to reprint the prototype to lighten up some of the colors and rework to the style I ended up with after a weekend of playing around, then need to schedule a playtest.


Danny Amoeba™ at Paramecium High - more playtests

Wow, this is only my second post and already I'm behind!

I've now conducted two more playtests of Danny Amoeba.  There was more tuning after the second playtest.  The third playtest concluded that I'd tuned almost all the fun out of the game :(

I'm now rethinking things and trying to decide how to get the fun back into it.

Danny Amoeba™ at Paramecium High - playtest#1 results

First play-test of Danny Amoeba™ at Paramecium High went .. better than I expected.  A lot of changes are needed, but some of the core mechanics are good.

Since the playtest, I've redesigned the event and dance system, reworked the action cards and summer vacation cards, re-tuned the scoring, and tweaked the rulebook all over the place.  Hopefully I'll be able to arrange another playtest soon.
