Life Cycle

Life Cycle: The desert tortoise will mate anytime it is above the ground. The females can store sperm and will lay a clutch of 4-8 shells that are extremely hard. After 90-120 days the eggs hatch. Desert tortoises live 100- 120 years old. One reason desert tortoises population grows very slowly is because the females do not produce that quickly. The female tortoise produces 3-4 offspring a year. But usually eagles would see the juveniles as food and eat them.
