Fellow Legionnaires,
February 2017

What a GREAT time to be a Member of the Department of Utah American Legion Family!
It is amazing how quickly the last seven months have gone by. It seems like only yesterday that I was elected the 100th Commander of the Department of Utah at the Vernal Convention. That being said, we have accomplished much, but there is also a great deal left to be done. Although I am not a big New England Patriots fan, I thought that this last Super Bowl was an amazing contest. The Patriots were down by 25 points in the third quarter – even Mark Wahlberg (actor), a “die hard” Patriots fan packed up the kids and left the stadium late in the 3rd quarter. He, like most, had given up on the Patriots. However, the Patriots knew that there were four quarters in the game and they vowed to “PLAY TO THE END”. What an amazing takeaway! Final Score – Patriots 34 – Falcons 28. Can we apply that to our Membership efforts they next few months? We have met almost all National goals for our 2017 Membership to include the latest - 85% of our 2017 Membership Goal of 7,000. These next few months are normally the most difficult. We MUST Play to the End. I ask that you personally contact all Post members who have not yet renewed to see what can be done to keep them in 2017. We must have members to have an American Legion. I thank you for all of your efforts so far and anticipate continued success this year.

Membership is Our Life Blood
