Caroling and Soup Pot-luck

posted Nov 27, 2017, 12:44 PM by Deerhurst Church   [ updated Dec 4, 2017, 5:33 AM ]

Oh come, Oh come all you in the Christmas Spirit!

We are going caroling on Sunday December 17th.
Bring a dish to pass and wear warm clothes.

We will gather in Memorial Hall at 3:00pm
We will visit shut-ins, home-bound and assisted care homes.
At 5:30pm we meet back at church to share soup, stew, or chili and break bread together.

Great singing skills are not required
– you only need a desire to spread JOY to all those who can’t make it to church!

Mission Outreach

We are serving dinner at FRIENDS OF NIGHT PEOPLE on Halloween.
Sign up on the Mission Outreach bulletin board if you can go; BUT leave someone at home to
hand out candy while you're gone.

A load of shopping bags went to FRIENDS OF NIGHT PEOPLE so we have more
room for more bags. A collection bag is in the narthex.

They're smaller and neater than bags, but equally important. They're aluminum can
pull tabs and rings for RONALD McDONALD HOUSE.
A collection jar is on the narthex counter.

Once a month you have this opportunity to help us keep the Deacon's Food Cupboard stocked. Purchase what you like from the table in the narthex and leave it in the shopping cart. We do the rest.
Thank you for your business!

We are still collecting shopping bags for FRIENDS OF NIGHT PEOPLE and aluminum can pull tabs and rings for RONALD McDONALD

Church School

Due to the ebb and flow of our students, we will be starting with 4 classes this year.
Nursery (for our youngest) - in the Nursery
Primary Grades (Pre-K to 4) - 2nd floor classroom
Middle School (5 to 8) - 2nd floor classroom
High School: (9-12) - 2nd floor classroom or the Library

Current plans are for the Middle and High School grades to travel off-site about once a month to spread God’s Love through a Mission Project (see below). Students unable to go can stay in Worship, help in the Nursery,or in the Primary Class

**Church School Dismissal Policy:
Nursery ends after Worship and Church School will end about 10:15’ish.
Parents/guardians (not older siblings) should meet their Pre-K through 5th grade children outside of their 2nd floor classroom.
Students in grades 5-12 will be dismissed from their classroom and can meet parents/guardians in Fellowship Hall.
No student is allowed to meet a parent/guardian outside the Church Building.

Bible Basics 101 with Rev. Amy Mondays @ 9 am

Women's Bible Study Wednesdays @ 10:30 am
Donna is ready to start a new session. This session will be based on the book The Heart of the Story

Prayer Time at Deerhurst Thursdays, @ 7:00 pm
Reverend Steve is having time for prayer in the sanctuary every week Thursday

Medicare Choices Sunday, January 7th @ 11:30 am
Medicare choices can be confusing.
Plan to join Rich Lash at this informational meeting as he reviews the facts face-to-face. While this is very important for folks currently on Medicare, it’s especially important for those who will soon be turning 65.
*Original Medicare- Part A & B
*Medicare Prescription Part D and NY State EPIC plans
*Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage options
*When you can switch, change or adjust your coverage
*And plenty of time for questions
Rich understands how confusing all the options can seem. As a broker, he represents many of the fine companies offering Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans.

All of the opportunities have sign up sheets on the Adult Christian Education bulletin board.
The committee is always looking for new programs and classes that will interest the congregation.
If you have an idea please contact any committee member-Kirsten Helm, Donna Sleap, Bill Walsh, or Chris Zimmer.

How are we doing?
As you may know the Personnel Committee is responsible for the hiring, support and evaluation of all our church staff. That includes Rev. Steve, Faye Sokol, Lori Abbott, Kirsten Helm, Linda Lemen, Dan Lynch and Rich Lash. We would love to hear from you regarding what YOU think they do well and what could use improvement.
Please feel free to contact Karin Ziegler to share your thoughts.

If you have any questions about the cancellation of worship services here at Deerhurst, please listen to "Storm Closings" on radio station WBEN, AM 930, or call the church office on Sunday morning.
The Pastor and the Session know that you will make the best decision as to whether it is safe for you and your family to get out and be on the roads.
