What Cheap Traffic Doesn’t Buy Publishers

To understand the popularity of cheap traffic, all you have to do is search for keywords like “buy cheap website traffic” and look at the results page filled with options. It shouldn’t be a surprise that small businesses buy cheap traffic, as they try to drive activity to their website on a limited budget. What may surprise you, though, is that Timeless Traffic Review.

Why do publishers buy cheap traffic? There are two primary reasons:

  • To make money. Some publishers run an arbitrage by selling display ads on a page for a price that is higher than what they pay to drive visitors to the site. The lower the price for the paid traffic, the more money they can make.
  • To boost the number of visitors. When publishers sell online advertising space, they make commitments to advertisers on the number of visitors to their site. Sometimes those numbers need a boost, and buying cheap traffic can accomplish that.

And the human portion of cheap traffic is probably not the type of visitors that will do more than just visit a page. (If they were willing to respond to calls-to-action, then they would be considered valuable by advertisers and would warrant a higher CPC. That wouldn’t be considered cheap traffic.)
  • Cheap traffic doesn’t build audiences. Many publishers are getting sophisticated about how they build their audiences. The New York Times, for example, uses the notion of a “subscription funnel,” in which they continually target readers with articles that they might be interested in, in order to get them to develop a loyalty towards the Times’ content and then ultimately subscribe. Cheap traffic visitors — bots, in particular — might visit a particular article but the chances of them returning to a site are very slim.

While there may be some value in buying cheap traffic, particularly if a publisher is running an arbitrage model, it doesn’t really help accomplish other type of business goals, such as increasing subscription revenue or selling products. Don’t overstuff your content with evidently promotional information (even though inserting keywords is exactly what you have to do), make the keywords appear naturally.

4.      Consider high(er) versus low(er) affiliate commission rate. Our take on this matter is to always pick the low(er) or moderate rate, unless you know exactly what to do when choosing a high commission product. High rate means there is less demand for the product, lower traffic, and harder to attract traffic and buyers. Selling a popular book is much easier than a gold necklace.

5.      Another cheap source of affiliate traffic is A2A sites like Quora. Find questions that are relevant to your products and answer it just like you write up your website content. Make sure to put the website link there. Traffic will come. Even if your conversion rate remains modest, the flux of new traffic will surely boost your ranking.

6.      Don’t neglect your landing page. This can be the very first page that your visitors come in contact with. Too much anything (texts, images, videos, flash, etc.) will turn your traffic away. Remember, persuasive over promotional. Selling has to be subtle.

7.       Utilize social media channels and build a list of mail. Social media is absolutely free to use and thus a cheap affiliate traffic source. A little social media reaction can get you a mailing list. Again, it all comes from engaging content or special offers that can catch readers’ attention.

Cheapest sources of affiliate traffic – the list

1.       Mailing list: no-brainer. It is the best source of affiliate traffic you can get. As we have mentioned above, build your list by interacting and responsible marketing. A strong relationship with you list can bring high conversion rate.

2.      Organic search: when people come to you because you rank in, let’s say, top 3 of Google search engine, they are more likely to buy than seeing your ad on some random sites.

3.      Youtube advertising: Youtube gets ton of traffic every day. The cost per click (CPC) can be as low as $.02. We consider it a cheap source of affiliate traffic. We thought to include Google Adwords, but for highly competitive industries, the price can rack up to $100 per click. If you are still new to the affiliate business, we don’t recommend using Adwords, but if you’re already experienced and want to scale up, then by all means, look into this paid search option.

4.      StumbleUpon: great to promote shareable content. Very affordable campaigns (in the low $50) can bring thousands of traffic per day. Again, content is king.

5.      Reddit: free to use (and thus in our list of cheapest affiliate traffic resources) and brings very high quality traffic if your products are what the audience is interested in. Reddit is especially beneficial for those who are promoting ‘geeky’ products.

It’s quite a broad question that could be discussed a whole day long but I try my best to hold it short and simple!

You already talked about “payed” traffic, that’s great because the organic way is much more work and quite harder. Well, you’re looking for cheap traffic sources, difficult to guess what’s cheap for you but I’ll tell you this.

·       Facebook Ads

·       Youtube, Instream and Indisplay Ads

·       Traffic generating companies (I’ll tell you with whom I’m working with)

·       Google or Bing Ads

Those are quite the biggest ones available with whom I’ve worked with and still doing it until today!

What’s cheap?

As I already said, hard to tell what’s cheap and at the end of the day it’s just important how much you’re paying per lead. If you pay under $10 per lead that’s fine and if you’re under $5 your good! If you pay less than $5 you’re a Genius an I would not recommend you to change the Ad itself. If you pay under $5 but no conversion to sales then it’s probably the country you’re targeting or the whole targeted group that’s not right.

Tips form my side!

I work with a platform called GMA, they sell quite good advertisement products and services to different companies and small businesses. The cool thing about them is, that they have a payback system in place that allows you after a short time period to drive free traffic. I used the platform at the beginning as a second income stream and this quite successfully, didn’t became a millionaire but it was nice side money.

There are some segments (where segment = Geo + 3G carrier + OS) that are cheaper by themselves, or simply because there's not that much competition there.

On Facebook (Facebook Ads), for example, you get cheaper traffic by getting a good Relevance Score on your posts (cool pictures and copy, with a precise targeting adjusted to your audience's interests and behaviors).

Plus: the more interaction your posts get, the lower the CPC is gonna be!

Other traffic sources such as Bucksense, Propeller Ads (Mainstream), and ExoClick and Ero-Ads (Adult) will give you good ROIs if you play the game well, which I'm guessing you probably will.

On the other hand, if you don’t want to spend a lousy dime, you should pass your offers to other networks.

Here’s the deal: you'll give them a predefined revenue share of whatever payout you're making.
