Disneyland's Rancho del Zocalo
Disneyland's Rancho del Zocalo
Rancho del Zocalo, a Mexican restaurant located in Frontierland, is one of the gems of the park. While I'm not qualified-enough to speak as to the quality of the cuisine, what Sarah and I sampled there was delicious. The real star at Rancho is the beautiful decor and nighttime ambiance created by the star light fixtures scattered throughout the restaurant. These stars create dazzling light-play on the walls, ceiling, and floor, and really set a relaxing mood. With any visit to Disneyland, a stop to Rancho is a must. Even if you don't enjoy the cuisine, take a few moments' respite from the crowds here, grab a Coke, and soak up the atmosphere.
"The Band Concert"
"The Band Concert"
We wanted Andrew's bedroom to have some musical theme--originally, we were going to do 'musical bears' and have teddy bears playing instruments. Then we decided to do a musical Disney theme, with a variety of Disney characters playing instruments. Then we finally settled on the 1936 Mickey Mouse short "The Band Concert". I've loved this cartoon since I was a kid, and the image here is composited from several different scenes in the cartoon. I took stills from the DVD, projected them on the wall, traced them, then painted. I started in late January 2004, and finished on March 31.
