Triang 'Princess' Dolls House No.1
Triang 'Princess' Dolls House No.1
Triang ‘Princess’ Dolls House No.1 made from 1939 to 1957. It is double- fronted, with four rooms, hall, staircase and landing. Opening metal windows. Imitation thatched roof. Front hinged in two parts. Length 30”. Height 23 ?”’. In 1950 it is described as ‘being a distinctive model with thatched roof and stuccoed exterior. The four rooms, hall, staircase and landing are tastefully decorated and have imitation linoleum floor covering...Colourful curtains on opening metal windows. Mine has been somewhat restored with over-painting of walls, windows, roof and base. The parquet style flooring is common to Triang houses although I’m not sure in which years it was used. This, along with the ‘tiled’ flooring in the bathroom and kitchen has been varnished. In all the photos I’ve seen of these houses, there has been a side door leading into the room on the right- mine does not have this- but it doesn’t look as if the wall has been replaced. I was a bit worried about the stuccoed walls until I read the 1950’s description. The dolls house is actually a model of a Welsh- style playhouse, ‘YBwthyn Bach’, presented to the Princess Elizabeth by the people of Wales on her sixth birthday in 1932. The original house now stands in the grounds of Windsor castle. It has four rooms, including a kitchen and bathroom with working appliances.

Miss Thang's room, long decorated in a Disney princess motif, was just not cutting it for her anymore. She really wanted to de-princess-ify her room. We finally got around to it last weekend (now that all the OM craziness is over). We hung some High School Musical and Hannah Montana pictures, as well as the accoutrements of her "Let's Play School" kit, to which she subjects her (mostly willing) little brother quite often. We rearranged her furniture, cleaned out her bookcase and gave Little Man the books she had outgrown, and she is very pleased with the results.
