weird civil engineering software errors

HEC GeoRAS

all Cross-Section Tools :20003: Error occurred in Reach Length tool - Did you check that you have 3 flowlines and that one is labeled channel, one is labeled left, one is labeled right?

if HEC GeoRAS asks you if you want to save, YES or Cancel, and you remember something you wanted to continue editing so you push cancel, HEC GeoRAS ignores your request to cancel and goes about its business without saving. This should read "Do you want to save: YES or NO"

If you get the following errors, it might be because you used HEC-RAS 4.0 instead of 3.1.3 to create your GIS sdf. Use 3.1.3, rerun, export GIS. Or download a newer copy of HEC-GeoRAS from esri. ftp.esri.com login RiverHydraulics password river.1114
    Read RAS Data::GetGenericXML
    Failed to import RAS XML to create geodatabase!
    from copyfeatureclass:91, Object variable or With block variable not set
    Error in clsMFloodReadRAS:FloodReadRASNoAPFrameWk!!

If your downstream reach lengths are longer than expected, it might be because you used the same river name for several unconnected rivers. Try using a unique name for each river.

Remember, each polyline in the layer XSCutLines must cross once and only once a polyline on the layer River, 2 polylines on the layer Banks, and three polylines on the layer Flowpaths.

HMS

if you import a basin file with the same name as a basin file already in your project, the imported file will overwrite your basin file.

Microstation

I'd load Microstation, click on the dgn I wanted to open, then Microstation would promply close. Or crash, exit, abort, whatever you want to call it. I reinstalled Microstation with no sucess. IT suggested it was an error in my profile and found the following extremely long key.

ACAD, within [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.1\ACAD-6000:409\Profiles\<<AUTOCAD>>\General]

It was 983 characters long. I removed just one of the listed paths and Microstation worked fine after that.
