 Pictures and updates on Eme

Going on 41 weeks...

November 15, 2006 (40 weeks)

Eme's due date...but no Eme!  At our doctors appointment today, we found out that nothing has changed from last week!  Eme is still doing well, though, and we have a non-stress test scheduled for Monday to make sure that she continues to do so.  But maybe she'll decide to come before then...

November 8, 2006  (39 weeks)

39 weeks down!  At our appointment today, we found out that Liz is 2 cm dilated, 30% effaced, and Eme's head is at -3.  We are getting excited to meet her, but she can also stay where she is until Daddy finishes his dissertation!  Eme is due in one week, the dissertation is due in two.

October 24, 2006 (36 weeks)

Our 37 week appointment was today, and nothing has changed from last week!  Except we did find out that the Group B Strep test was negative, so mom won't have to get antibiotics through and IV at delivery.

October 21-22, 2006 (36 weeks)

We had two showers this weekend!  The shower on Saturday was at Grandma Folkertsma's house, and the one on Sunday was for the Lovely Ladies at Deirdre's house.  Eme got all sorts of presents, and we think we're all set for her to come!

October 17, 2006 (35 weeks and 6 days)

Our 36 week check up was today.  Eme is continuing to do well, and is measuring about 35 cm.  Mom is 1 cm dilated, but not effaced at all.   We also had the test for Group B Strep, so we'll get those results next week.  Then mom headed up to Michigan to spend some time with family.

October 14, 2006 (35 weeks)

Eme's second shower was today!  This one was hosted by Melissa Baird, and was mainly for HPVC friends.  But both grandma's got to come, as well as other friends and family.  Our dining room table is getting piled high with baby gear!

October 7-8, 2006  (34 weeks)

We went to Lamaze class this weekend...after 12 hours of class, we feel a lot more confident about the process of Labor and Delivery!

October 3, 2006  (33 weeks)

For a birthday present, Daddy got to hear Eme's heartbeat!  This time it was high, in the 160's, because Emelia was so active.  The doctor had to chase her around with the Doppler to get her heartbeat.  Everything else was good news...in other words, perfectly normal.  Eme is approximately the right size, and is doing well!  No more bad news for Liz about high sugar or anything else.

September 30, 2006 (33 weeks)

Eme had her first shower today!  Grandma Boerema and Aunt Laura hosted it.  She got lots of great presents, including a stroller and car seat, crib bedding, a swing, and lots of other useful baby "stuff".

September 26, 2006 (32 weeks)

The meeting with the nutritionist went really well today.  She suggested following a diabetic diet to avoid GD, and told us what that entails.  Goodbye sweets!

September 22, 2006 (32 weeks)

We went for the glucose screen today at 7:30 AM!  It was not fun; blood was drawn 4 times.  When we got the results later in the afternoon, the nurse said that Liz did have gestational diabetes and would have to test blood sugar, etc.  This actually turned out to NOT be true, but because one of the blood sugar numbers was a little high, we will be meeting with a nutritionist next week.

September 20, 2006 (32 weeks)

Today's appointment did not go as smoothly as some of the others!  Eme is doing well, with a heartbeat that continues to be in the 140's.  But the doctor told Liz that her glucose screen indicated high sugar, and she has to take the four hour glucose tolerance test to see if the high sugar is gestational diabetes.  He also suggested taking iron supplements to combat anemia.   We also are going to start having two week intervals between doctor's visits instead of monthly visits...only 8 more weeks til Eme's due date!

September 4, 2006 (29 weeks)

Eme went to the Field Museum today to see the King Tut exhibit...we stopped to see Sue first!

August 19, 2006 (27 weeks)

At the Sowers' cottage in Michigan...Eme got to hang out with some of her future friends!

August 15, 2006 (26 weeks)

Another doctors appointment today.  Everything is going good.  Eme's heart beat was in the 140's.

July 5, 2006 (21 weeks)

And her name is....

Emelia Grace Boerema.  Eme for short.

It's a Girl!

We had our second ultrasound today.  They did extensive observations and measurements of all of the baby's internal organs, and everything looks wonderful.  They were also able to tell us that our baby will be a girl!  Mom and baby are both doing well.

April 20, 2006 (10 weeks)

We had an appointment for our first ultrasound today.  Everything looks good for both Liz and the baby.  The size of the baby confirms a due date of November 13-15.  The heart rate has slowed down a little to about 160 bpm.
