Youth Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA)

I have been engaged in YATA and NATO issues since November 2002, when the educational Prague Atlantic Student Summit was held at the same time as the NATO Head-of-State Summit.

I served for one year on the YATA international executive board as Vice President - Education. I was elected to this post at the YATA / Atlantic Treaty  Association AGM, Athens, December 2006.

The 2007 YATA / Atlantic Treaty Association AGM was held in Ottawa from 31 October-2 November. A new YATA board was chosen. Its members are from Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Portugal, and the United States.
Publications

Here is Hell: Canada's Engagement in Somalia (UBC Press, 2007) is an expanded and revised version of my doctoral dissertaton on Canada's engagement in the Somalia peace operations of 1992-93. The book uses original research - such as Access to Information Requests, document content analysis, and interviews with eighty-five different senior Canadian, U.S. and UN decision makers (there were 110 interviews total) to tackle a controversial and still topical subject. Click on the cover at right for a longer description of the book, the table of contents, the dust jacket reviews, and secure Internet purchase options. The complete list of interviewees is also available. This information is not available anywhere else, including in the published book.
