Crumpton--Lowary(Lowery) Mon Sep 2 19:27:06 1996
My grandfather was born in Nashville TN 30 Dec 1902. His name was Thomas Elmore Crumpton. I believe his mother was Willie/Wiley or some such spelling. I do not know for certain who his father was. certainly the parents were not together when he met and married my grandmother. His mother's maiden name may have been Wiley Lowary or Lowery. Thanks so much for any help you may be able to give! Sharyn Bates
Wallace Sun Sep 1 14:54:53 1996
My GGG-Grandfather, Samuel Wallace, died in 1795 and is buried near present day Nashville. Research has led us to believe he may have been killed in an Indian raid possibly near Mansker's Station. Does a list of those killed in Indian raids exist? Is there an existing cemetery from that period? Carolyn Chilton.
Davis--Owen--Shumate Sat Aug 31 14:19:21 1996
I am a descendant of Robert DAVIS and Augusta Shumate DAVIS, who came to Davidson County, circa 1835. I have a copy of a family history that outlines their descendants, two generations anyway... I would be happy to pass this along to any Davidson Co. researchers who may be interested. It also ties into the family of Everett OWEN of Williamson County, TN. Dorothy Molineaux.
Sowell--Turner Sat Aug 31 00:11:03 1996
Looking for anyone researching the Sowell and Turner lines. They were in Davidson Co. in the early 1800's then went to Boone Co., Missouri for a short time then on to Guadalupe Co., TX. The IGI indicates that Andrew Jackson Sowel and Lucinda Smith Turner were married in Davidson Co., TN, in 1836, how- ever Lucinda would have been only 9 years old at that time. I am wondering if there might be some kind of Intent to Marry that was filed in Davidson Co., that might have given someone the impression that they were married there at that time. They were actually married in 1842, in Texas. These families were in Albemarle Co., Va. and Chowan Co., North Carolina, before going to Tennessee. (I would also like know about the family of Shadrach Sowell, who returned to Va. rather than going to TN with his brothers Lewis and John.) John Sowell was the father of John Newton Sowell, who married Rachael Carpenter, and they were the parents of Andrew Jakson Sowell, who was so-named according to tradition, because they lived next to Andrew Jackson, and his wife delivered the baby, who was named after him. Pat Grout.

Copeland--Perry Wed Aug 28 14:11:30 1996
My mother is a COPELAND. I am trying to research my COPELAND line, but I am stuck on my Gt.-Gt. Grandfather, Jefferson COPELAND, b. 9 Feb 1812, place unknown. He married Mary COPELAND (family records state her maiden name was the same), b. 2 Oct 1814. Their son, my Gt. Grandfather is the reason why I'm looking in TN. His name was James Overton COPELAND, b. 1 Oct 1841 in Oak Hill, Davidson Co., TN. He married Julia Eliza PERRY abt 24 Mar 1862. He died 24 Dec 1910, she died in 1918. I am curious why James Overton COPELAND has the middle name of "Overton". Perhaps someone in the family was from Overton Co., like his father, Jefferson. That was why I was interested in finding out if your line from Overton Co. ties into my line. Have you ever heard of these people? Are they in your line? Is Overton County near Davidson County? Have you heard of COPELAND's intermarrying? Any help would be appreciated. Sincerely, Loretta Boyer McClellan

Belton--Goodman Sun Aug 18 19:58:25 1996
Seeking ancestors/descendants of John Goodman and Rebecca Belton who lived in Tenn early 1800's - John (b 1777 possibly Maryland), Rebecca (b 1791 possibly VA) - they had the following children, all in Tennessee: John B. Goodman, b 1815 Hiram Goodman, b 1817 Steven Goodman, b 1818 Elizabeth Goodman, b 29 Mar 1821, Near Nashville, Davidson Co. Lewis Goodman, b 1823 Marmeduke Goodman b 1824 James D. Goodman b 1826 William B. Goodman b date unknown Early in the 1830's John & Rebecca Goodman petitioned Stephen Austin to relocate in his colony and were granted headrights - apparently there is a letter on file in Texas Archives from 32 of their relatives and friends to attest to their character - at the moment the archives are being microfiched and are not available. I have quite a bit of info on the Goodmans in Texas and later, some of the family, in Cal. My great great grandmother was Elizabeth Goodman who married, in Texas, at the age of 16 a Nathaniel Peck - a member of Sam Houston's Army. Thanks in advance. Faye Cox
