Senior Database Administrator – OMI SIPS

Database administrator and developer of OMIDAPS, a highly complex system applied to forward processing, reprocessing, distribution, and archive of model output and satellite data from multiple sensors including AURA/Ozone Monitoring Instrument, TOMS, and SBUV I & II. Manage database schema and PostgreSQL servers for development, test, and operations instances. Converted all database instances and schemas from Sybase ASE to PostgreSQL eliminating software licensing and vendor support costs.

Webmaster - OMI Science Support Team

Responsible for all web site administration, application integration, and design. Developed an intranet site in compliance with all NASA, GSFC, and Section 508 guidelines. Attended GSFC, Earth Science Enterprise webmaster meetings and Plone symposium. Integrated technologies on GNU/Linux, Apache, LDAP, Perl, PHP, Python, MySQL, and PostgreSQL. Introduced and maintained a suite of useful web-based utilities including:

  • Bugzilla - bug and action item tracking

Maintained up to date diagrams for all networks and database schema. Developed equipment inventory database for tracking and labeling system hardware/cables.

Senior Scientist - OMI Science Team Support

Support production of graphics and posters presented at American Geophysical Union meetings. Support atmospheric composition, trace gas, aerosol, cloud, and ozone studies. Attend international OMI Science Team meetings and regular US OMI Science Team meetings.

Senior Database Administrator - Aura Validation Data Center

Designed and maintained database and schema for the Aura Validation Data Center metadata and file archive database. This resource is both an index and repository for ground, aircraft, and satellite correlative data with a common metadata scheme. Developed an internal web site to support software development and collaboration, combining bug tracking and configuration management tools.

Systems Support - Invasive Species Forecasting System

Performed high level system engineering and design for the Invasive Species Forecasting System. Developed and collaborated on a series of documents used as the basis for funding the project.

Database Application Designer - SSAI Corporate

Developed a custom database application for project planning, contract metrics, generating organization charts, and project staff reporting for the SESDA Earth Sciences Group.

For the Smithsonian National Zoological Park

Project manager and technical lead for the operation, development and maintenance of a FacilityCenter CMMS Sybase/NT/IIS based computerized maintenance and facilities management system. This project included the integration of webserver based CAD images to an existing Adaptive Server database using ASP/Whip/HTML and ODBC as connecting technologies.

For the Social Security Administration

Project manager and technical lead for the development of a FacilityCenter/Oracle/NT based computerized maintenance management system. This project enhanced enterprise-wide health and safety programs by establishing equipment inventory, periodic and on demand maintenance of building systems, and work orders.

For the General Services Administration

Oracle DBA and database developer for three different projects: the Federal Blue Pages Electronic Publishing System, the Federal White Pages development project, and the .gov Domain Registry.

For the US Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service

Developed an application to catalog the release of beneficial organisms worldwide using Oracle Forms and Reports, hosting the application on Windows NT and the Oracle databases on Sun Enterprise Server.

Managed, generated reports, and customized the user interface for the NT and Oracle based Maximo CMMS system for the USDA Facilities Engineering Branch.

For US Spacecom

Designed and developed the beta and release versions of ADEPT, an application that manages access to documents, long range plans, and roadmaps stored in Oracle through the Oracle Web Application Server.

For the US Army Corps of Engineers, Headquarters

Advanced development and deployment of the ENGLINK interactive, a tool that manages situation reporting and organizational readiness information. This data base application operates in both client/server and on the WWW and was created using Oracle Developer 2000 forms and reports.

For the Food and Drug Administration

Defined standards and specified software and system requirements for an enterprise-wide Automated Facilities Management System. Acted as project technical lead, implementing a client/server SPAN-FM application. This system integrated Oracle/AutoCAD on Windows NT server.

Assisted with the rollout of the Integrated Systems Architecture lab, integrating MS Backoffice/Exchange/SMS on Windows NT server.

For NASA GSFC, Facilities Management Division

Implemented a multi-user Computer Aided Facilities Management system based on AutoCAD using the ADS application AutoFM. Customized Microsoft Access to function as user interface, data pipeline, and report generator. Analyzed graphic and alphanumeric data to generate reports and graphics showing optimal use of space resources. Designed move plans for population of GSFC B-32 and B-33.



Network/Systems Support Consultant, SynchroCell/Dovetail Technologies (1993-1997)

Configured, installed, and maintained the network and workstations for a multi-user office automation system. Provided end-user training and support. Customized and deployed the Maximizer contact and customer relationship management application.



Systems Engineer, The Shakespeare Theatre, Washington DC (1994-1995)

Operated, maintained and troubleshot SCO UNIX servers running ticketing and campaign applications. Processed electronic draft charge transactions and resolved modem transmission problems. Trained and supported users of Lotus 123, WordPerfect, Office Portfolio, and Prologue ticketing software on UNIX and all applications on Macintosh and PC platforms. Monitored contract preventive maintenance activities. Planned and acquired hardware for multiport IEEE RS-232 terminal servers and WYSE terminals, memory and system upgrades. Wrote software configuration to allow two UNIX terminals on one PC under DOS. Secured free Internet access for staff use. Attended seminars, conferences, and professional training workshops. Took over responsibilities for the message of the day and of the email lists and HR database. Volunteered for Theatre activities, map production, and campaign development activities.



GIS/FM Technical Specialist, Intelligent Images Inc., College Park MD (1992-1993)

Installed and supported custom solutions for GIS and facilities management automation. Provided project startup, technical support, and field service for AutoDesk, CADapult, Calcomp, ESRI, HP, IST, MapInfo, Novell, and SoftDesk products. Maintained CAD demonstration room. Set up for GIS and FM seminars. Represented AutoDesk and ESRI at trade shows. Demonstrated CAD, FM, and GIS software on "IMAGE SERIES" systems.



Software Engineer, Custom Command Systems, College Park MD (1990-1992)

Generated touchscreen displays, icons, images, and overlay graphics for system GUI. Installed Novell network software and Arcnet hardware on fileserver and workstations. Interpreted architectural drawings and rendered images from them. Managed digitized speech phrases for spoken responses and voice recognition user interfaces. Originated and documented detailed specifications for all Custom Command Systems graphics.

Collaborated with University of Maryland Computer Science Human Computer Interaction Laboratory and Professor Ben Schneiderman on designs for human interface structures. Managed a staff of eight work-study students.

Troubleshot and configured extended passive backplane 80386 machines equipped with D/A converters, memory expansion, and speech recognition cards.

Programmed ERGO DOS extender software to handle large kernel custom OS in extended memory. Mastered conversion of client supplied graphic, tabular, and text-based data for integration into home automation systems. Developed utility programs to automate the tasks of graphic production. Processed site-specific information for integration into the high-end ULTIMATETM home automation product. Authored and produced demonstration disks for marketing department.



CAD Designer and Systems Manager, Digene Diagnostics Inc, Silver Spring, MD (1988-1990)

Designed and implemented the construction of Digene's biotechnology labs, administrative offices, and production facility using MacDraft on Macintosh systems. Acted as liaison between architects, builders, contractors, management, scientists, and vendors. Drafted architectural features, new business forms, logos, plans for new inventions, and marketing literature.

Promoted DNA probe technology at trade shows and supported marketing activities and customer databases. Co-developed "BIOLOGICAL VISION" medical imaging system using MS Windows 1.0. Innovated and produced "Pennyprobe" thermocouple for quality control of slide warmers and automatic temperature and voltage difference data logging. Manufactured peristaltic pumps for gel electrophoresis apparatus.

Managed all computer hardware, data backups, and software updates. Developed a series of macros for automating administrative tasks. Trained employees in the use of IBM and Macintosh microcomputers and software. System Administrator for Rolm Redwood telephone system.
