David Nickle

The Devil's Exercise Yard

Welcome to the yard. You've got 20 minutes a day here. Let's make it count.

So - with apologies to you-know-who -

- please allow me to introduce myself...

I'm David Nickle, and I write stories. Most of them are what you'd call horror stories. But in the mix are science fiction, fantasy, and some stories that are just stories. Not one of t

hem is true. I've had some of these stories published  in places like The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror, the Northern Frights series, the Queer Fear series, Cemetery Dance, On Spec, and a whole bunch others. I've got  five novels out (Volk: A Novel of Radiant Abomination, The 'GeistersRasputin's B

astards, Eutopia: A Novel of Terrible Optimism, and The Claus Effect, with Karl Schroeder), and two story collections (Knife Fight and Other Struggles and Monstrous Affections, all my own, available from ChiZine Publications).

In 1997, I won a Bram Stoker award for short fiction, with my pal Edo Van Belkom. That story, "Rat Food," isn't on this site now. "The Sloan Men", which won no prizes but got a fancy Year's Best reprint and was adapted for television and audio, is. For people who like lists, there's also a CV. And links for people who like to link.

There'll be more stuff on the site as time goes on. In the meantime - the clock is ticking...
