This document was captured during the invasion of Kwajalein and translated. It was distributed to most commenders. It is most notable as the "Carrier Manual" which Admiral Spruance, among others, had seen before the Marianas and is said to have influenced his view of Japanese carrier fighting. It is worth studying for a number of reasons. The principal one is the fact that the Japanese still felt that the offensive had the upper hand in carrier fighting. The impact of radar on fleet air defense was completely missed. As a manual for pre-radar carrier fighting it is excellent.
