I have always had an interest in metalworking, but to a certain extent it seemed a bit like a black art to me. The last time I did any real metalworking was in junior high school metal shop, back in the early 1980s. We did some forging, soldering, and casting. At the beginning of 2013 I started doing a lot of online research into hobbyist machining as a way to support my main hobby, shooting. I am also an amateur radio operator, so I eventually may do some machining projects in support of that hobby, too.

In April 2013 I picked up a Grizzly G8689 mini milling machine. The purpose of this site is to share my experiences in learning about metalworking from the perspective of a (as of 2013) rank n00b. Experienced machinists will no doubt find material on this site that provides amusement, and perhaps a few facepalm moments.

This site will be a work in progress. Hopefully the information presented herein will prove useful to other folks interested in hobby machining.
