Dave Clark Five

Within a decade, The Dave Clark Five became the Dave Clark tens of thousands.  According to data at the National Social Security Website, David became the second most popular baby name for males during the 1960’s, which is up from the fifth most popular name during the 1950’s. The wholesome images of the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame drummer Dave Clark and David Nelson from Ozzie and Harriet inspired throngs of parents to name their male children David.

The popularity of the name David has plummeted since the 1960’s. In 2011, David had fallen to the 14th spot. If you were born between 1964-1970 and your last name was Clark, some estimates say that you had a one-in-six chance of being named Dave Clark. Suddenly tens of thousands of Dave Clarks inhabited the earth.

It always brings a smile to my face when I meet people of my parent's age who light up when I tell them my name. Inevitably they will make a reference to the Dave Clark Five. And it makes Dave Clark Pastor of Ankeny Christian Church feel "Glad all Over."
