CUHK (FINA 3080: Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management)
This course is successful in explaining a lot of concepts that I used to find challenging in the past and was unable to understand by myself, such as bond yield and discount rate concepts. I feel more confident pursuing a finance career after taking this course because I become more well versed with industry terms like VaR, alpha, beta, etc. Much appreciation to Darwin who links course materials with real-life news to make what we learnt more relevant and interesting... Overall, I would say this is one of the best courses I have taken for my major. -- 2023-24 Term 2
I initiated a weekly email reflection with the Professor. The Professor is very keen in responding in a detailed and thoughtful manner. The Professor is always willing to discuss with the students. I learn enormously by these practices even though our course is conducted online. Moreover, the Professor is really keen on ensuring all students understand the topic. This can also be shown in how he wants to collect our feedback. -- 2021-22 Term 2
Darwin is very enthusiastic about teaching. He always encourages active participation in class. He is also open to questions from students during and after class. If I encounter any difficulties in learning, I can consult him and he can explain the concepts to me again. Most importantly, Darwin replies email quickly, which is really surprising. Overall, the course instructor is really great. -- 2020-21 Term 2

HKUST (FINA 3104, FINA 211: Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management)
The course is friendly to students who are not good at maths. The instructor has clearly made the goal of letting us understand the concepts in interesting ways, instead of reciting or doing tedious maths. The instructor is passionate in teaching. -- Fall 2015
Robust, well-reasoned lectures. Thorough assignments. I feel like I'm actually learning finance. I can't read the word "security" without hearing it in Darwin's voice. -- Fall 2014
The course has included different investment strategies which help me understand how the real business operates and runs. Also, professor has explained in detail about each topic and make it easy for students to understand. I think professor has made great efforts in preparing lecture materials such that every lecture is informative and rich in knowledge, not a single minute is wasted. I like this course very much since it is really practical, it does not only rely on theories. -- Fall 2013
Professor is very active and passionate. He makes use of [online] discussion to freely discuss financial ideas. After the midterm, he did mid-term survey to improve himself and the course. What a lovely professor. -- Fall 2012
The instructor strongly made me love this course very much. I like how theory is related to reality. Like CAPM assumption doesn't apply to reality but we can still compare. I love the lecture video. When I watched it before revising midterms, it helps me a lot in clearing my concepts. Thanks Darwin! You are the best instructor I have come across [at HKUST]. -- Fall 2011
