Dragon Force Winter Series

Whilst waiting for the wind to re-appear after lunch on Saturday, the Dragon force members were asked by the commodore to take a vote on whether to allow the new A+ rig to be used in Club Series racing During the Winter Series? After some discussion, a majority decision was made to continue with the A, B and C rigs for that series and to review the subject again of A+ usage for the 2018 Summer Series.  Although the Dragon Force and Dragon Flite boats are unlikely to see an Open Event being held by the club in 2018 the Class Association have indicated that they would like to return in the future. When the class does return for an Event, those who enter are likely to need the A+ rig to be competitive. So practice with it is required, perhaps ad hoc racing is an idea for those who have them!

6 Metre Winter Series

The commodore asked the 6 Metre members who were present on Saturday as to their thoughts on what the 6 metre class wanted to do about Winter racing. After some discussion it was generally agreed that because of low racing numbers that the 6’s will race ad hoc on the first Saturday of the month. With racing courses being arranged so as not to stop others from using the Lake It is hoped that the fleet racing numbers will generally increase. The ultimate aim is of course to see an active racing fleet with its own fully organised racing series in the future and for our members to be competitive in the Area championship next year.

IOM News

Dave Morris and I have had discussions recently about the continuation of the IOM Race officer Rota system. Many of those who have done it felt that it was worthwhile, but thought the ARO and particularly the Average points awarded was not really needed. With this in mind Dave has compiled a preliminary listing of helms who would appear to be suitable to take on the role of RO, however there are others but for reasons of distance travel etc**  have not as yet been placed on the listing.

The whole objective of the idea is for the Club to have a number of competent members to fill the RO role should the need arise. In the short term it means that we do not rely on the same people to run the racing and therefore allows everybody who wants to, to compete.

The list is as written by Dave and your comments about it are invited.

** I am sending this to you as an IOM sailor but I am well aware that some of you would not wish to be part of the listing, as there are elements of the RO role which would be unsuitable for you. Also some helms have not been considered as their individual knowledge at this time means that they would be somewhat thrown in at the deep end, which would be very unfair.  Therefore it is sent to all on an information basis. Any who would like to join the listing or comment please advise either myself or Dave – email
