libgphoto2/gphoto2

Library and command line to control digital cameras

2.4.4

Language: Written in C.

Original author:
Marcus Meissner

Platform:  Specifically ported to Maemo OS2008.

Features: See http://www.gphoto.org/

Limitations: Command-line use only -- no GUI.  Currently is very flaky in OS2008.

Download: Debian package (for Maemo) containing both libgphoto2 and gphoto2 is here.

Tricorder

Star Trek TR580 Tricorder VII simulator.

Latest Version: 0.6

Language:
Written in Python/PyGame.

Author: Darren Enns

Platform:  Any with Python/PyGame installed, but designed for the Nokia N8xx internet tablet series, as the simulator screen is actually rotated 90 degrees -- and the tablet is then held in portrait mode.

Features: Sound effects, flashing lights, simple animations, ability to download text/graphics from internet (if available). Also, ability to download GPS info (if available).

Limitations: Just a simulator.  Not all buttons/functions work or do anything.

Download: Debian package (for Linux and Maemo users) is here.

Documentation: General README is here.

PyEphem

Scientific-grade astronomy routines

Latest Version: 3.7.3.3

Language: Written in Python and C.

Original author: Brandon Rhodes.

Platform:  Specifically ported to Maemo OS2008.

Features: PyEphem provides an ephem Python package for performing high-precision astronomy computations. The underlying numeric routines are coded in C and are the same ones that drive the popular XEphem astronomy application, whose author, Elwood Charles Downey, generously gave permission for their use in PyEphem. The name ephem is short for the word ephemeris, which is the traditional term for a table giving the position of a planet, asteroid, or comet for a series of dates.

Limitations: These are Python library routines.  You use them to write your own Python applications requiring astronomical calculations.

Download: Debian package (for Maemo users) is here.

Documentation: General README is here and here.
