DANGAN GIRLS FOOTBALL TEAM REACH SECOND FINAL IN A ROW Semi-Final Dangan Girls Gaelic Football Team beat Skryne NS in a semi-final match on Wednesday October 24th in Trim Gaa on a score of 3-3 to 2-2. The match was played in windy conditions and was a very close affair. The result means that the Dangan girls have reached the final, against opponents yet to be decided, for the second year running, the first time the school girls team has achieved this feat. Last year the girls defeated Skryne in the final by 3-2 to 2-3. Final Dangan NS 2-6 0-2 Baconstown NS Dangan retained the Div. 3 Girls Football title in a close fought encounter with near neighbours Baconstown. The first half was a titanic struggle between two well matched teams, finishing with Dangan ahead by 4 points. Baconstown were well up for the challenge, but with whatever wind advantage there was, Dangan gradually established a foothold, and got their noses in front before the end. Eliece Elliott accepted the trophy on behalf of the school amid great scenes of joy from the supporters. Here is the team celebrating just after the game. Captain Eliece proudly holds the Cup Kate and Nóirín came to support the girls too! Everyone enjoyed the soup and sandwiches provided by the Parents' Association Star forward May could not attend the Final so we took this pic to include her! Season 2011-2012: GIRLS BECOME MEATH CHAMPIONS!! In a wind affected game, Dangan held on in the second half to prevent Skryne scoring any goals. The soloing ability of Eliece, Sophia, Nóirín, Kate, Stacey and other players helped Dangan start attacks which almost led to scores against the wind, and the overall fitness of Dangan enabled them to prevent a Skryne comeback.
