And so the season comes to an end and what a season it has been.
We've ended the season with more players than last year - our fourth consecutive year of growth.
The Beach Party was a first for us - well done to the P6s for organising such a fun evening and thanks to everyone for making it a success.
There were outings to Murrayfield to watch Scotland play and our own Dragons also played twice at Scotstoun in front of a packed Glasgow Warriors crowd and twice at Broadwood during Scotland U21 matches.
We also had a fun day in September and don't forget the spectacle of our 26th Festival of Youth Rugby.
We had great training sessions and games throughout the season. There was some familiar opposition as well as newer teams on our fixture list but all as friendly and welcoming. There were only two cancelled training days in part thanks to the weather but mainly due to the hard work of the groundsmen.
All the coaches and committee members are volunteers. Looking at a recap of the season reminds me of how much time we give for the love of our wonderful sport. Some of us play the game, some got involved for the first time when their kids joined the club but we all share a passion for teaching our sport and sharing the marvellous rugby ethos. We also want to get kids active.
With that said, we need volunteers. Our training sessions can only be active, purposeful, enjoyable and safe by having enough volunteers to lead, coach and assist. Volunteering doesn't have to involve coaching - it can be taking a register, keeping scores or even taking some photographs to share with the club.
Getting involved in coaching is a big commitment but the courses available and the skills you learn are invaluable not just at rugby training but they adapt in to your personal and work life. When is the last time you had the chance to learn something new?
Come along, get involved in your club and help make a difference. Dalziel Dragons are going places. Are you coming with us?
Yours in rugby,
Elaine Neilson
