TOPIC:           Ethics in Engineering: Why Ethics?1 hour CEUs

    What’s in it for me?

    Here’s part of the answer:

    •          I’ll get my CEU on Ethics for this year

    •          I will get to see Ethics in Engineering from a new perspective, maybe some introspection

    •          I will boost my pride for being an Engineer

The Engineering profession is the learned profession that impacts more of the different aspects of human life and activities than any of the others. This entails certain responsibilities than need to be present in the mind of every engineer. Come on Tuesday the 16th; you’ll look at ethics differently after this day!

    Do not miss the meeting!

Biography:  Ramiro is a semi retired chemical engineer with over forty years of experience. After retiring from private industry in 1999, he started on an interest he had always had, teaching. He was recruited by the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico as a substitute teacher in the Engineering Management Graduate Program. He went on to teach courses in Engineering Management, Human Resources Management, Solids Waste Management, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, and others.

Shortly after joining the University, the Engineering Ethics Professor left his position and Ramiro was asked to lend a hand. He found that the engineering ethics course being taught was an analysis of the laws and regulations governing the practice of engineering, with no emphasis on the personal responsibilities of the young engineering students. Convinced that engineering ethics is only a special case of human ethics, he went on to redesign the course. He taught the course for over seven years, until he moved to Texas, following the desires of his wife, who wanted to be closer to their grandchildren.

Presently he works part time as a technical, literary and legal translator, mainly in English to Spanish and Spanish to English, with some simple works in French and Portuguese

    December meeting:

We have rescheduled this meeting for December 14th, the second, instead of the fourth Tuesday, to stay away from interfering with your Christmas celebrations. This is not a regular meeting, we have taken the work part out and left only the fun part of it - it’s going to be our Christmas get-together, and at a different venue: Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, at (Northwest Hwy & I-35), 10428, Lombardy Ln., Dallas, TX 75220 - (214) 358-1912

We will be having dinner for about $25.00 per person, but we’re still working out the details. SAVE THAT EVENING!
