How to create new pages

Creating a new page

Pages in the wiki can be connected using links, like on a website. When you click on a link to a page that does not exist, the page is created for you.

(You can also create a new page with the Add New Page form.)

In this page...

  • Links to other pages
  • Creating fancy links - using different labels
  • Inserting a link when you cant remember the page name
  • Creating clever links - to a specific part of a page
  • Links outside the wiki

Links to other pages

Switch to Edit mode and type in the name of your new page.

Then surround the name with square brackets [ ]

For example:

This is [my second page]

When you switch back to View mode, this will be displayed as a link.

If you click on the link, a page called "my second page" will be created. If it already exists, it will be opened.

That's all there is to it - create as many links and as many pages as you want.

Creating fancy links - using different labels

Do you want to create a link to "my second page" but have "a different label" displayed on the link?

Go back to Edit mode and change the link text to:

This is [[my second page][a different label]]

If you switch back to View mode, you will see the link displayed with your new label.

Clicking on it will still take you to "my second page".

Don't think you'll be able to remember that?

You can use the Insert Link dialog to do this for you.

  • Desktop version

On the desktop version, click on Insert -> Insert link (or click Ctrl-L)

This will open the Insert Link dialog - choose a page to link to, and (optionally) enter a different label to use.

  • Mobile version

On the mobile version, click on Edit -> Insert link

This will open the Insert Link dialog - choose a page to link to, and (optionally) enter a different label to use.

Why else might you want the 'Insert Link' dialog?

It is also useful if you want to insert a link to a page, but can't quite remember what you called the page!

Creating clever links - linking to a specific part of a page

When creating a link, use a # after the page name to give the part of the page to link to.

For example:

[my second page#interesting bit]
[[my second page#interesting bit][read the interesting bit of this page]]

will be displayed like this:

And both of these two new links will take you to the section of "my second page" with the heading "interesting bit".

Note: Link to a section in the current page by omitting the page name, like this: [#Tigers] to jump to the 'Tigers' section of the current page.

Links outside the wiki

Want to link to something that isn't a wiki page?

That's fine - go to External Links for more info.
