Philos Aphilos

Two sides of the same coin.  Emotions so that closely related in intensity however worlds apart so much so that they are polar opposite.

If you can incorporate just one of those in intensity in your article or novel then you have accomplished a great feat.

If you can incorporate both of them then you are beginning to master those emotions for your characters.  Perhaps the characters lack of mastery will be more effective in your article or novel.

Perhaps a back and forth between the two will help you delve into that in a different way.

Perhaps mixing and matching and swirling them around in the proverbial cocktail of your plot makes for an interesting combination.

Use them to your advantage and then use them to your characters advantage and / or disadvantage.
