Welcome. This is the website for the lab group of Dr. Daizaburo (Dai) Shizuka in the School of Biological Sciences at University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Here at the Shizuka Lab, we use a variety of approaches to study social behavior of animals. We are particularly interested in how cognitive mechanisms (e.g., learning, recognition) and patterns of social interactions in a wide variety of contexts--including parental care, social parasitism, group living and species interactions--affect ecological and evolutionary processes. Our work combines field-based behavioral and ecological studies of birds and quantitative approaches such as social network analysis.
