Curriculum

 

            

            He was born in Cruz Alta, but he grew up in Panambi, RS, Brazil. He began his music studies on recorder flute when he was eight years old. Some years after, he dedicated himself to study piano and voice. He was a part in many musical groups from the Colegio Evangelico Panambi and IECLB/Panambi, in choral and instrumental activities. By 16, he chose the flute to be his instrument. He graduated at Federal University of Santa Maria in B.M. in flute, in the studio of Professor Joao Batista Sartor. During this time he has participated in Youth Orchestra and the Santa Maria Symphony Orchestra ensembles. He participated in masterclasses and music festivals with renowed flutists, like Angela Jones-Reus (USA), Alberto Almarza (CHI/USA), Richard Sherman (USA), Michel Bellavance (CAN/SUI), Michel Debost (FRA/USA), Carol Wincenc (USA), Philippa Davies (GRB), Lucas Robatto (BRA), Danilo Mezzadri (BRA/USA), Mauricio Freire (BRA), Artur Elias Carneiro (BRA), Sergio Barrenechea (BRA) and Curt Schroeder (BRA/ITA). He was the first flute of the Caxias do Sul Municipal Wind Orchestra and the flute player of the Wind Quintet, and the second flute and piccolo of the Novo Hamburgo Wind Orchestra. He won the prize of FUNDARTE Chamber Music Orquestra' Youth Solists 2008. He got his Master's degree in Flute performance at The University of Southern Mississippi, where he worked as a Teaching Assistant, as a student of Dr. Danilo Mezzadri. At that university, he was a part of the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and the Flute Studio. Currently, Mr. Schmidt is working on his Doctoral degree at Michigan State University, as a student and Teaching Assistant of Professor Richard Sherman.
