Many Orisha adherents all over the world do some sort of daily observances. It's just a few minutes of each day to consider our blessings and be mindful of our connection to and dependence on Nature. Different people have different ways of doing their observances. Some burn candles, some incense, and some give a portion of their food, while others having nothing material, give their time and energy.

There is an old teaching, "There is no ebbo without Aje (Shaluga)." This means that for Africans, prayer is never mere wishful thinking. Although positive thoughts are good and useful, in order to complete a prayer, some material resource must be given, even if all one has to give is their sweat or comforting arms, or blood to fight for freedom. "Thoughts and prayers," for us means that some helpful action has been or will soon take place.

So even though it is not required, many do daily observances anyway to stay in the habit of active prayer and to make sure through action, that the energies, spirits, and Nature knows that we are serious and receptive. Unless one has been doing it since childhood though, it can be difficult to get into the habit and keep it up. This site was created to make the task easier and to motivate people to keep at it.

You will probably miss a few days at first. Even experienced Aborishas (Orisha adherents) do from time to time. Everyone is sometimes sick, depressed, or distracted. Just don't be discouraged. This is about your relationship with the deities and no one else's. Your Ori and your Eshu will lead you where you need to be. Blessings and Ase!
