On behalf of the board and staff of Avenue CDC, I would like to thank you very much for your participation in Art on the Avenue this year. This event provides an important source of operating funds for us to continue providing safe, affordable housing for working families in the inner city neighborhoods that we serve. This year we sold over $65,000 worth of artwork, with over $26,000 of that going back to artists whose work sold during the auction. While these sales were lower than last year, we are very pleased with the event given the current economic conditions. Along with underwriting and ticket sales Avenue CDC netted about the same amount this year as we did from the auction in 2009.
Avenue CDC is currently constructing a 144-unit mixed-income rental community on Irvington Blvd. and a 39-unit elderly housing project on Fulton Street, both in the Near Northside of Houston. Your generous support of Art on the Avenue makes these projects possible.
Thank you again. I hope you will join us next year for the 15th Annual Art on the Avenue where we will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the founding of Avenue Community Development Corporation.
