Commandaria AOC Signs of Change

posted Jan 23, 2013, 2:30 AM by Cyprus Wine   [ updated Dec 14, 2013, 4:01 PM ]

Commandaria Triumph
The export market has always been a source of inspiration and change, and it's inescapable for wine producers in time, to take the idea of redesigning and rethinking certain products and product categories.  Commandaria is no exception to that rule. The photo release at the latest edition of the Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco proved to be the stage chosen by Etko for the change that is to come both in Cyprus wines and for the Commandaria, Cyprus's Unique AOC fortified wine.

This can be seen as a bold move by Etko which opts to integrally redesign and rename it's classical version of St. Nicholas hoping for more performance with a slimmer bottle and a bolder visual identity. The change is welcomed for all practical purposes and surely this is a tendency that will sweep Cyprus Wines in the coming months.

Cyprus Wines at the House of Wine in Paris

Desgustation in Paris - Cyprus Wines
In nature, as in wine seasons, the return to the source has always something of positive emotions and vital satisfaction.

Take the story behind the return of bottles of Commandaria 1845 from Paris, beyond the possibility of tracing back heritage, one does observe the result of fruitful of encounters; satisfaction produced at a personal level and which institutions sometimes make their own.

Couldn’t we just forget Paris?  We can’t, because of these virtuous circles without end. Wishing Good luck to the wineries attending the Cyprus Wines Tasting at the house of wine, the OIV.   More about the tasting in October

Larnaka future wine destination

Larnaka wine destination
It's the rural richness of Larnaka which is the setting for the emerging interest for wine.  With the recent developments in Kornos, with the culinary haven of Archontiko and new wineries at Domaine Dafermou and Ktima Christoudia, it's inevitable to forsee that from Pareklissia up to Lefkara, the wine offer as of late has been multiplicating. It's not just a question of numbers but how the present mix can blend into existing cultural enjoyment.
