Welcome to the CYC Intervention Strategy Toolbox!  This toolbox contains research-based intervention strategies to address student needs by building skills, knowledge, and mindsets that will support them in getting or staying on track to graduate. 
 

Goals for HS & the Future

Help students develop short-term and long-term goals for HS and the future, provide knowledge of what it will take to reach those goals, develop positive beliefs about future potential and choices, provide knowledge of how grades and credits work, and support students in developing confidence in overcoming challenges toward reaching goals.

Growth Mindset

Develop students’ belief that ability and competence can and will grow with effort; that with the right effort, strategies, and help, he or she can succeed at school and future goals.

Organization and Time Management

Help students develop effective system for keeping track of school materials, assignments, and to do’s that ensures student comes to class prepared and nothing falls through the cracks. Help student organize his or her time and prioritizes tasks to ensure everything gets done.

Studying and Test Taking

Teach students effective strategies for learning in-class material, studying, completing homework, and taking tests.

Interpersonal and Self-Advocacy

Assist students in developing skills necessary to have effective interactions and help maintain positive relationships with adults and peers, including relationship building, communication, self-advocacy, and social awareness; increase skills in communicating with school staff to effectively address students’ education needs.

Self-awareness and Self-management

Help students develop knowledge of and control over their thoughts and ability to monitor own understanding, including knowing how student learns and what motivates them. Support student in employing self-discipline, self-control, delayed gratification, responsible decisions making.

School and Community Engagement

Increase students’ engagement in school and community environment, promote sense of belonging, acceptance and support; including extracurricular involvement or peak experiences.

Academic Support

Provide academic assistance or tutoring one-on-one or in small groups, helping students complete assignments and/or learn content.

Attendance Support

Support students in regularly attending all classes on time, including bringing student attention and awareness to impact of attendance on credits/grades; reduction of barriers to attendance such as transportation.

Behavior Support

Support students in behaving in accordance with school rules and expectations; bring student attention and awareness to impact of behavior on attendance/credits/grades, increasing engagement, resolving interpersonal issues.
