 The Outreach Program for Soccer

“TOPSoccer” is a community based training and team placement program for differently-able players 4 years of age or older, who have a mental and/or physical disability. Organized by youth soccer association volunteers, this unique program enables athletes to play at levels consistent with their skills, not necessarily their age. It also meets the Washington Youth Soccer mission statement, “To foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of the State of Washington’s youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition”.

 What’s Involved

TOPSoccer is managed through Washington Youth Soccer at the state level and most local programs are hosted by local soccer clubs although they can be organized independent of a local soccer club too. The Vancouver area TOPSoccer program is managed by the Camas/Washougal Soccer Club (CWSC).

 When and Where We Play

We play outdoors on the fields close to Doc Harris Stadium in Camas. Practices are each Wednesday beginning in August. We run an 8 week session in the fall with games each Sunday beginning in September. We will occasionally participate in special events within the surrounding area.

 Buddies

A “Buddy” is a volunteer who is 12 yrs or older who assists the players on the field. If the disabilities of the players are significant, a buddy may be needed for each player. Ideally buddies are matched up with a player on a 1-1 basis. All buddies must register so we can perform background checks.

 Costs

The Camas/Washougal player’s registration fee is $30.00 which will cover miscellaneous local expenses. The fee is collected at our first practice. Please make check payable to CWSC/TOPSoccer. The major out of pocket expenses, such as insurance, are born by Washington Youth Soccer, and are paid from revenues received from general player registration and grants. We thank everyone for being so generous.

 Information

For further information about the CWSC TOPSoccer program, please e-mail me or leave a message on our soccer line as noted below. All players, buddies and coaches must register online for the fall season. Click here  to register or visit www.cwsoccer.com, and click on the TOPSoccer Registration link. We look forward to the TOPSoccer season, and giving all children the opportunity to enjoy and play the game of soccer.

 TOPSoccer Challenge

We challenge other local soccer clubs in SW Washington to introduce TOPSoccer in their local area. Marty Torres from the State Washington Youth Soccer office can help you get set up and supply you with some nice start up equipment. Click here to learn more about starting your own TOPSoccer program.  In the mean time, players are welcome to join us here in Camas. We also have a vision to form an adult TOPSoccer program in Camas. Let me know if there is interest.

 Sincerely,

 Tammie Naffziger
