The Choral Union has its roots in community choral music in the Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, area. The group began in the mid-1980s and was known by various names including Choral Union, Community Singers, and Parkland Chorus. Out of a desire to sing together as a choral community, in the summer of 2014 the group claimed the historic name of Choral Union and embarked on a new adventure.
Choral Union is a non-auditioned chorus that rehearses weekly during the academic year on Mondays from 7-9pm at First United Methodist Church in downtown Champaign, Illinois. The focus of the group is to unite voices in singing a variety of choral literature. The group welcomes all singers regardless of previous vocal training or choral experience. The only prerequisites are the ability to match pitch, the ability to produce a pleasing vocal sound, and willingness to sing in and contribute to the group.
The first purpose of Choral Union is to provide an opportunity for anyone who loves music and loves to sing. Secondarily, the group enjoys sharing choral music with the public and gives two to four concerts each year.
