Course summary:

This course will cover data analysis of RNA-seq experiments combining lectures and practical exercises. The lectures will give insight into how biological knowledge can be generated from RNA-seq experiments and illustrate different ways of analyzing such data.

Practicals will consist of computer exercises that will enable the participants to apply methods to the analysis of RNA-seq data under the guidance of the lecturers and teaching assistants.

In more detail, the course will cover the following topics:

- de novo assembly,

- alignment, data handling and visualisation, data quality assessment,

- differential expression and statistical analysis, using Bowtie, Tophat and R/Bioconductor.

Course objectives

  • To develop participants’ familiarity with advanced RNA-seq data analysis methodologies

  • To provide participants with hands-on training on the latest analytical approaches and statistical analysis of RNA-seq data

Target Audience

This course is aimed at advanced PhD students, post-doctoral or early career researchers who are applying or planning to apply RNA sequencing and bioinformatics methods in their research. Familiarity with the technology and biological use cases of high throughput sequencing is preferred, as is some experience with R/Bioconductor.

The selecting committee will be looking at the overlap between the applicants expectations from the course and what the course will be delivering, coupled with the timely application for the candidates to use what they have learn as soon as possible.
