Yoel Mansfeld

Yoel MANSFELD has been teaching and researching tourism related issues since 1987 at the Department of Geography & Environmental Studies of the University of Haifa in Israel. Between 2005-2008 he acted as the Chair of this Department.  In 1998 he founded the Center for Tourism, Pilgrimage & Recreation Research at the University of Haifa and since then he acts as the Director of this research center. His main areas of academic interests include: Tourism planning and development; Cultural tourism; Spiritual tourism; Religious and wellness tourism;  Community-based tourism; Sustainable tourism; Tourism and development of Small & Medium Tourism Enterprises; Tourism and consumer behavior; Tourism and environmental management; Tourism, security and safety issues; Tourism and crisis management. His international academic activities included participation in more than fifty international conferences worldwide. His current research activity focuses on cultural and sustainable tourism planning and development.  In this framework he is interested primarily in issues of community centered tourism planning, in host communities’ attitude towards tourism development and on related issues.
