Scout Sunday, February 8, 2015

posted Jan 28, 2015, 11:19 PM by Pack Six-Twenty

Scout Sunday is special this year!  Why?  Because this year’s Scout Sunday falls on Feb. 8, the BSA’s birthday. (The Boy Scouts of America was founded on Feb. 8, 1910.)  The last time Scout Sunday fell on Feb. 8 was in 2009. It won’t happen again until 2026.
St. Hedwig Church, our charter organization, will be celebrating Scout Sunday at 8am Mass that day and all scouts are urged to attend that service, dressed in their finest Class A uniforms.  Those scouts who earned their religious emblems (Wolves and Webelos 1) will be recognized in the church bulletin

Pinewood Derby

posted Dec 30, 2014, 12:58 PM by Pack Six-Twenty

Our Pinewood Derby is fast approaching! It is on Sunday January 4, 2015 at 9:00am at Quinn Hall.  The schedule of events is below along with an attachment of the rules for the race. If someone in your family (other than your Cub Scout) will be racing an additional car, please email the first and last name of the family member to Noel Ellis noelellis@gmail.com no later than Friday, January 2, 2015

There are no rule changes for the cars from prior years, so for those families who have built cars before there are no surprises. However, there are some changes to the categories for judging, so please take a look at those.  The rules and the categories for judging certificates are included in the attachment.  There are also some construction tips and resources provided in the file.  Please note that the rules are not as strict for the sibling/adult class so they can be a bit more adventurous. Also remember that your Cubscout should build as much of the car as possible. There are separate races for the siblings and parents to go all out!

An evite will be going out soon. Please respond as soon as possible, so we have an accurate head count.  I look forward to seeing everyone as this is one of our main events of the year!

Webelos Woods El Dorado Park, October 24-26

posted Sep 20, 2014, 12:48 PM by Pack Six-Twenty

This year’s WEBELOS Woods is scheduled for October 24-26 at El Dorado Park in Long Beach.

The weekend plan is for WEBELOS and adult partners to arrive at camp Friday evening and set up their campsites. Saturday will be devoted to fun, games, crafts, activities and a campfire. There will be a short hike to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the wilderness area. Sunday morning there will be a Scout’s Own and a closing ceremony before breaking camp and heading home.

WEBELOS 1 will have a chance to earn Activity Pins, mingle with Scouts and experience the great outdoors overnight.

WEBELOS 1 will start their trail to Tenderfoot to get a jump on the next rank in Boy Scouts.

Webelos Woods , the pricing is 20.00 each for Webelos and 20.00 for adult on or before 09/10/14, or $25.00 per person before 09/30/14 and the $30.00 per person after that , you will be providing your own food and preparing your own meals and that is a good time to let the Webelos learn to cook .  There is also a $12/person fee for the Den's food costs. One parent is required to attend with their scout. No siblings are allowed.  If you pay before 09/11, the check will be made payable to Pack 620 in the amount of $32/person.

This event is designed so the Webelos can start to learn the skills they are going to need when they move up into Boy Scouts. The events will be run on the basis of what will be expected of them in Troop format. There will be some overlap of the requirements of their activity pins ,but tracking that and signing off on those.

WEBELOS WOODS vs WEBLOSREE:
Webelos Woods (held in October) is a non-competitive camping weekend with the focus on TEACHING the scouts camping skills while meeting Webelos requirements. Boy Scouts are assigned to work with the Webelos in campsite set-up, fire building, cooking, and other skills.
This is great practice to hone our skills and identify our shortfalls for our Webloree competition held this coming April. Webloree is a challenging camping weekend where Webelos compete against other packs Webelos in scout skills and knowledge.
