We had a super Spring Family Campout at
Memorial Park in San Mateo County on
April 8-10, 2011! It all started with a flag
ceremony in which all the scouts participated. We had a
whittling circle where even our newest Tigers learned to whittle safely.
Doyle Bennett lead us on a wonderful hike where we discovered hollow trees, we threw rocks in the creek, and walked until we couldn’t go anymore. We ate delicious food and practiced Leave No Trace by bringing our own mess kits
The highlight of the event was flying two flags for the last time and then retiring them into the fire. It was somber and serious, but so exciting for the boys. The six families that participated in the campout really got to know each other and became fast friends.
Mukesh and Shipra Sharma planned an AWESOME campfire program. We heard great jokes, we told stories, we even got henna tattoos! It was cold, but we survived on jumbo roasted marshmallows and Doyle’s famous coffee. One of the adults, who had never camped before said, “I wish we could stay longer!”
