Saturday, May 7, 2011 was a magical day in San Jose. 6000 scouts converged on the San Jose History Park for Scout-o-Rama 2011 which is the Santa Clara County Boy Scout Council’s Annual Scout Jamboree.
Pack 43 of Santa Clara had an AWESOME “Siege on the Castle” booth complete with two catapults and a brand new table for them to sit on all built by Dax & Kai Barber’s grandpa, Paul Jae. Scouts took aim and fired beanbags at a beautiful castle handmade by Cynthia Gray. It was so gorgeous that we were almost reluctant to shoot at it! We had many volunteers show up and staff the booth all day! We couldn’t have had such a successful booth without all of our wonderful volunteers!
The day kicked off with a parade of flags. Pack 43 walked along with all the other Troops and Packs participating in Scout-o-Rama. The parade was lead by a group of scouts in traditional Native American dress. At the end of the parade, everyone participated in the flag ceremony. It was great to see our littlest Tigers in their uniforms saluting the flag right next to big Boy Scouts! The flag ceremony ended with the National Anthem perfectly synchronized with launching water rockets.
Pack 43 scouts participated in the Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos Push Cart Derby races. They all had a great time racing our homemade hot rod made by David Johnson. The boys used teamwork to turn the car around and help their teammates put on the seatbelt and grab the steering rope. We won a few of our races, but for the most part the boys are going to remember how much FUN they had participating in the race with their friends!
Families at Scout-o-Rama got to enjoy BB guns, walking on stilts, shooting water balloons, climbing across bridges and going through rope mazes made by Boy Scout Troops. There was so much to see and do. There was something for everyone and everyone had a wonderful time!
