On Saturday, May 21, 2011, Den 4 of Cub Scout Pack 43 attended the bridge grand opening ceremony at Happy Hollow Park and Zoo. Of all the scouts present, our den was chosen to do the flag ceremony! Udhav carried the American flag and Andrew carried the California flag. Eagle Scout, Nate McClure of Troop 116 acted as master of ceremonies. He did a wonderful job with a speech of his own before announcing San Jose Vice Mayor Madison Nguyen and Happy Hollow Foundation Executive Director Heather Lerner. Our boys stood at attention through all the speeches. They were
invited to stand in front of the giant red ribbon as the San Jose City Council cut it. After the ribbon cutting, Udhav and Andrew were the first people to walk across the new bridge as they led the city council members and Happy Hollow’s mascot, Danny the Dragon, across the 570-foot-long structure. It was extremely exciting. We’re so proud that our boys did such a great job in their highly visible roles. After the ceremony, all scouts were treated to a free admission to Happy Hollow. It was a very fun day!
