Memorial Day Flag Placement

posted Aug 16, 2012, 9:55 PM by Cub Scout Pack 43

Pack 43 joined up with Pack 32 bright and early on Saturday, May 26, 2012 to place flags on the graves of veterans at the Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. The flags were provided by our chartering organization, American Legion Post 419.

A total of about 30 scouts and their families fanned out across the cemetery placing the flags. When a scout found a marker of a service member, he placed the flag, stepped back, and saluted, paying tribute to the veteran. Hundreds of flags were placed throughout the cemetery marking graves of members of all branches of the service dating back to soldiers in the American Civil War.

“That was fun!” said Luke Garcia, a second grader in Pack 43. The boys not only had fun but learned what Memorial Day is really all about.
